AMC Slaughterhouses to Stay Closed for Jain Paryushan 2026
Ahmedabad's Municipal Corporation will keep its slaughterhouses closed from 8–16 September 2026 for Maha Paryushan, and again on 21 September 2026 for the Digambar Jain community's Paryushan Dhoop Dasham.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will keep its municipal slaughterhouses closed on two occasions this September, in line with the Jain community's Paryushan observances. The closure was approved by the Standing Committee at its meeting on 20 August 2026.
The dates
- 8 September 2026 – 16 September 2026, for the Jain community's Maha Paryushan Parva.
- 21 September 2026, separately, for the Digambar Jain Samaj's Paryushan Dhoop Dasham.
Why
The order follows a directive from the Gujarat Government's Urban Development and Urban Housing Department (letter no. UHD/MRT/e-file/18/2024/9272/P Section, dated 16 December 2025), which sets out the policy behind these closures during the Paryushan period each year. AMC's Standing Committee formalised the specific 2026 dates in its 20 August 2026 agenda.
